Sydney Ultrasound for Women (formerly known as Sydney Obstetric and Gynaecological Ultrasound or SOGUS), provides a specialised ultrasound service for women. Established by Dr John Anderson 22 years ago, it has grown in size and reputation to be regarded as the forefront of this speciality. Our services cover the full spectrum of imaging in obstetrics and gynaecology.

The advantage of a specialised ultrasound service is the experience of both the sonographers in seeing normal as well as abnormal cases, and the doctors of not just imaging, but also treating patients with these problems as an obstetrician and gynaecologist.

Our Sonographers are all qualified and are experienced in obstetrics and gynaecological ultrasounds. This is important in recognition of the variations of normal that can occur, as well as abnormalities.

The ultrasound machines are linked to computers to enable the doctor to see the images simultaneously in another room. The images are captured digitally, stored digitally on optical discs and printed out on photo-quality A4 paper. There are video (VHS) facilities at all sites to record the examination.

This brochure discusses the different obstetric, gynaecological and genetic screening examinations that Sydney Ultrasound for Women (SUFW) offer. It also gives a background on both SUFW and the six specially trained gynaecologists and obstetricians who are at the heart of the organisation.
