Just would like to share our experience with the 12 wks u/s and maternal serum blood test at the Sydney Ultrasound for Women.

I saw threads recently about the cost of ultrasound and I wondered why was I paying so much money to do mine at SUFW?

I now can tell you that this is the best money you could spend. Our appointment was one of the best medical services I've ever received. First of all, we were able to do the blood test, u/s and a consultation with a genetic specialist all in one morning. By the time I finished the u/s (the baby took a while to get into a position original.gif ), the blood results from the Genetic Lab were ready, and all were combined to give us the risk result.

Secondly, every person - the blood collector (it was done at Sydney IVF clinic downstairs), the u/s technitian, the genetic specialist - very, very professional and lovely. I felt really cared for.

And of course, getting the results immediately was the greatest bonus. It was unnerving enough without waiting several days for the results.

So, if someone is deciding where to do the pregnancy ultrasound in Sydney, that's my recommendation.

I had a SHG there (tube in the uterus with dye and an u/s) and found them amazing. It was worth every penny.

I agree that SUFW are wonderful, although the facilities vary depending on your location. For example, I go to SUFW at Newtown and you need to have you blood taken at least a week beforehand.

Yes I have also found them great, although pricey! But I think you get what you pay for as with most things in life....

Thanks for this - I'm going there on Monday for a CVS...naturally I'm pretty nervous but I've only ever heard good things about SUFW so I guess I'm in good hands.

They're great, and the medical staff are second to none.

Recommend calling the day before to confirm appt times though - the last two times I've been booked in they totally mixed up my appt time!

But yes, excellent otherwise. Had a hycosy there and will forever be grateful to the specialist and nurses for being so kind and understanding of my anxiety.

This is my third pregnancy but the first time I have used SUFW. I agree completely with OP. I'm looking forward to my morphology scan with them in a couple of weeks. Money well spent and only slightly more expensive then the other options in my area.

I had many scans with them during my last pregnancy which was high risk. Everyone from the receptionists to the Maternal-fetal specialists were fantastic. I was happy to pay their prices.

Which suburb is it located in?

If that's where I went (are they a chain maybe?) then I can't speak highly enough of them.

They're on Kent St in the city. I think there are other locations at Bondi Junction and Newcastle too though.

They have a website with all their locations - there are several around Sydney. When I had my last lot of ultrasounds done by SUFW (about 3 years ago) only the Kent Street Sydney location offered the "one stop shop" where you can have the blood taken when you first arrive and the results are available after your ultrasound. If you went to the other locations you had to have the blood taken a few days before your appointment.

I had several scans there with my twin pg (the Kogarah offices).

I agree with all the PPs - they were thoroughly professional, friendly, and worth the money.

Ive gone there with both pregnancies too, cant fault them, but havent experianced a scan anywhere else, so I thought they were 'standard'?!

I had all my pregnancy scans down with them at the clinic at the SAN - they are fantastic.

"Luckyinlove" - their level of care is soooooo far above any other clinics that I am aware of, I wish it was the standard but it's not sad.gif

Another fan!! I have used them for all of my scans x 3 pregnancies !!! I'm in the 'You get what you pay for camp" along with my OB, it's the best cash I have ever spent!!

FauxPas

I went there for bub number 1 and share the sentiments above - I was very surprised to have my scans done this time the RHW in Randwick (private provider so same price) as the results took a whole day and a few follow up calls and while the people were nice the operation is not nearly as professional as the others.

Having said that, I think they do a meeting with the counsellor with everyone and that freaked me out a little as I assumed there was something wrong original.gif

Same here for x2 babies.

I've used them once and agree they were excellent.

However for 1/3 of the price I'm quite glad I found a place up the road that had lovely helpful staff if a less polished 'package'. Especially as they burned the pics on a CD for me (not sure if it was because DH was late and missed it all, or whether they do it anyway) AND showed me the sex at 12 weeks wub.gif AND told me that if DH turned up before they closed he could come in and look through the full scan with them (unfortunately he didnt sad.gif ). However they weren't organised enough to get the bloods beforehand so I had to wait for the result.
Still, the bloods were bulk billed so honestly, if you're on a budget, I'd rather save myself the $250 or so!

I think SUW would be good for a first baby though, to have that whole pamper package sort of thing.

They are definitely above standard. I had scan's at RPAH, Westmead and Bulk Billing US clinic, both Pregnancy and Gyno related and SUFW is 1000x better than all of them.

I've gone to the Burwood office for all of the scans for both pregnancies too, so also have had nothing to compare them to. It's interesting to read they're above average as I was under the impression getting the results immediately was the norm. Guess I've been spoilt then and am glad they were recommended by my doctor! original.gif

I've been to their Kent St, Newtown & Kogarah offices.

Definitely Kent St is the best (maybe because they're the busiest?). The lady I saw at Kogarah was hopeless.

Going to stick with the Kent St location for this pregnancy original.gif

I had all of my scans for my last three pregnancies there (two of those pregnancies didn't end well), and agree that Sydney Ultrasound are very good. I went to the Chatswood clinic each time. I have also had two amnios there under the guidance of an excellent OB who has a very good reputation, and who I would recommend in a heartbeat.

I would like to add though that with this pregnancy, I've done everything through the public system (at the RPA Hospital), and the care has been just as good. I have had a very experienced OB doing each of the three scans I've had so far (and their machines are exactly the same), and had an amnio under the guidance of another excellent OB who actually works at Sydney Ultrasound as well, and came recommended by the doctor there who'd done my two previous amnios (he was away on leave at the time I was due to have an amnio with this pregnancy, hence why I didn't go to Sydney Ultrasound for my amnio this time - I also saved myself nearly $1000 by going public, but with exactly the same doctor I would have requested had I gone to Sydney Ultrasound).

So for those who say 'you get what you pay for' I would argue that you can find care that's just as professional and equally as good in the public system.

I agree with OP. I didn't use them for the 12 week scan but i should have, the place obs sent me were terrible - he now refers to SUFW.

I'd had a hyCosy there before IVF, they were fantastic. It's a bloody painful procedure but I felt really well taken care of.

just wondering.... i am due to have my 20 week scan at the Kent st office on Friday and was wondering do you have to ask/pay extra to see bub in 3d, or do they do that as a standard part of the scan??

----o----

Molokai
Un Amour, I've not had 20 week scan yet, but looking at their website it seems they only do the 3D scan if required for further diagnostic purposes only and won't do it for purely 'entertainment' (ie just for a look-see).

Maybe give them a call and speak to the receptionists about it - they are pretty knowledgeable and helpful in my experience.

I used SUFW way back in 2006 with DS - I had a CVS at the city location (I thought it was O'Connell St? maybe they moved). Have to agree the service and care was fabulous. Love Dr Fergus!

I agree. We went to SUFW when they were at Norwest (they have now moved to nearby the hospital - like SIVF have).

The ultrasound technicians were just lovely when doing ivf for a couple of years.
Then when I had no heartbeat with my last pregnancy they were amazing and supportive.

When I went back with my pregnancy with J the technician that I used to have alot was SO excited to see I was pregnant.
Was a nice feeling.

I had my Morphology Scan there a few weeks ago and found them to be very good and extremely thorough - albeit $$$$$$. I admittedly just went there because of it's proximity to work, but with a very uncooperative bubs the radiologist was very patient and informative, explaining what everything was in detail and why they measured what they measured.

So where would you go for similar service in Melbourne?

Another fan of SUFW here!

Un Amour - my sonographer did the 3D scan as a part of the scan - she even printed some pics for me!

Have fun at your scan!

Ohhh, I am so glad to hear this. I have a referral for a transvaginal ultrasound with them and I am feeling a bit anxious, if I am honest. I shall call and make my booking this afternoon.

Does anyone know if they take bookings on weekends or is it just a mon-fri thing?

Another SUFW fan here! They are so caring and so thorough and I feel so completely at ease with them. I go to the Bondi one and just love 'em!
